This is it folks just a day away from the start of this event. Will have all the coverage starting Sunday night.

Last week I got a nice package of goodies from Michigan Rick. Rick has been a big part of this site from day 1 and has been a major supporter of classic trucks for years. He donated a way too kool SoCal cruiser to his club SOCP for a raffle this year. The bike will be raffled off at the Arthur show in August. Check out Rick's website: House of
Wheels Unfortunately Rick can't make Panelfest this year, we'll get out our agendas to plan the 2006 version better to accomodate everyone unable to come this year.

Finally ran into Cluckie again at the Mapleview Cruise Night. Of course he'll be at Panelfest ! Cluckie has been a regular at Vanfest for many years now.

Big Bob sent me an email the other day saying he might come up from New Jersey. Bob and I usually meet up in New York or Connecticut at van runs. Well he's making the trip up to support the cause. Fortunately he will have company on the way up and way back from this long trip. Looking forward to seeing Bob and all the rest of the panel owners.

The custom awards are being made now, many thanks to Larry and Pam. I may have them back as soon as this Saturday at the Gravenhurst show. I wanted something different than the usual, I think they will go over very well and may just set a precedent.

I had previously announced that there would be special Panelfest t-shirts and dash plaques. With the dissapointing sales of the Paneltruck.com t-shirts, I decided against that, however an F1 panel is the main vehicle of the Vanfest t-shirt and dash plaque as it is. There will be a special present for each panel owner in the show that should make many happy.

Hotel Info: Comfort Inn St Thomas 100 Centennial rd at hwy 3 in minutes to park .phone number is 1-519-633-4082 in St Thomas. Mention you are with Vanfest, there is a special rate of $80 cdn per room for two double beds. Now the actual planning and manpower issues are kicking in. Manpower for Panelfest will not be drastic, but I am trying to get some judges lined up. I have one on the fence right now and ideas on at least one other and one possibly coming in from Wisconsin ... without his truck. I will see to it that there is a canopy with chairs available for the panel owners to hang out under during the show and maybe peruse through albums and chat about their panels.
Made a mistake about Primedia, it looks like it was a nother publication as I talked to Bob Ryder from Truckin' magazine recently and he knew nothing about it.
Still trying to get confirmation of attendees here, but I have been told by a rather reliable source that no one is commiting to anything this year.
Even before we run Panelfest one, the ideas are running through my head for possibly doing this in SoCal in February when I am down there for a convention (I live to kill two birds with one stone) and also to have a one day classic truck show in Ontario next year.
Larry is heading to Supernats with a bunch of Panelfest flyers, who knows if we can interest some of the southerners to come up with their top F1-F100 show panels and classic restorated panels. They will be very well received !

Who will be at Panelfest ?

What can panel owners expect ?
We need sponsors for the 6 awards that will be given out just for the classic Panel Trucks in attendance.
We’re hoping for all Canadian sponsors at this time. Although we expect a number of panels in from the U.S.
Two important trophies would be the Ford and Chevrolet awards, hopefully we will have some parts dealers interested in sponsoring their particular make of panel.
We would also like sponsors for door prizes that will be drawn just for the panel owners. Gift certificates in $50 or more range or products of whatever value you prefer.
The first and likely annual Panelfest will be taking place June 17-19 in Aylmer Ontario at the Springwater Conservation area. This event is part of Vanfest 10 one of the largest truck events in Canada with over 200 custom pickups and vans in attendance. Panel trucks are rather rare and never saw the huge production numbers of the pickups that they were based on starting way back in the 20’s up until the 60’s. But we expect to have at least ten of these classics at the run and likely more with the news today that Larry Hill will be there with his multi award winning 1953 F100 panel that placed fourth at the F100 Supernationals, quite a feat for a panel and even more amazing when you consider the other 3 were all pro-built.

It has also been featured in Street Trucks Magazine.
Not all panel trucks are full blown customs. Many people like Peter Reiseger prefer the more classic look. Peter’s 1952 Chevrolet has been meticulously restored to it’s original glory and is a very fine example of this era. Peter will be there and is one of the most knowledgeable people I have met with regards to classic Chevrolets.
Panelfest will be a friendly gathering among a select group of individuals who share a common interest in panel trucks. An infrequent chance to mix and match with owners of all makes of panels.
There will be 6 awards given out. Best of Show, best Ford, best Chevrolet
best Dodge or other make,People's Choice and last but not least Best under construction, the average panel takes 10 years to complete ! There will only be one award per panel, so everyone has a better chance of wining.
The awards will be one customs that you will be proud to display. There will special t-shirts available to buy and dash plaques will be given to all entrants.

Expect to see panels from every end of the spectrum.
I spoke to one of our longtime enthusiasts and he will be getting his unfinished panel there by whatever means possible.
Possibly towing it behind his other truck, a classic 55 F100.

Vanfest started out as a vans and classic panel only event. It has evolved into one of the largest truck shows in Canada and is currently the longest running van related event in the country. It has been getting bigger and better every year. We have people coming in from as far away as Florida this year to mark the anniversary.

As a sponsor of Panelfest your name will be on a similar newsletter to this distributed to everyone at Panelfest as well as being on the Panelfest info page and lead page to the top notch coverage of the event on Paneltruck.com
Goodie bags will be distributed and if you would like to include business cards or flyers we can include them in these. The panel truck owners will be well taken care with special hand made souvenirs of the event and will be vying for some custom made awards during the show and shine. In the likelihood of a second Panelfest, the original sponsors will have the first option to return. We are not asking much of our sponsors, seeing it is our first we need you maybe a bit more than you need us. But for a minimum $50 donation towards the awards or a minimum $50 product donation or gift certificate for door prizes you will benefit from this added exposure that is important for extra business but also for that all important ranking in the search engines. Each time your site is linked brings you higher up in the search engine rankings.
This event will be listed shortly in the bible of Canadian classic car and truck lovers; Old Autos.
